Happy New Year from the LMLOO Personal Injury Department
December 30, 2019
BY: Domhnall O'Cathain
2019 was a very successful year for the personal injury department with nearly $4 million won for our clients in verdicts and settlements.
2019 will be remembered for three trials in particular. One jury verdict was 10 times higher than the defense’s final offer. Another jury verdict was 6 times higher than what the defense offered before the jury began to deliberate. And a third jury trial ended before closing statements with the defense offering $700,000, which was substantially higher than what was offered before that trial began.
We also successfully settled many cases before they were given a trial date. In those cases, the defense came up with what we and our clients agreed to be a fair number to settle. We know that our reputation of trying cases and getting big verdicts at trial forces the defense to come to us with reasonable offers before settling.
A successful year with a personal injury practice always brings mixed emotions. While we are thankful for the financial income that supports our employees and their families, we are always mindful that the money comes at the cost of terrible personal injury to our clients. It is always our hope that the money recovered for our clients makes the future more manageable for them.
And while we thank our clients, we also thank our support staff, led by Diana Villalobos. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Stephanie Martinez, who relocated to Florida, but who still checks in to see how some our clients are doing! Saying goodbye to Stephanie meant a warm welcome for Nicole Flores, who is now part of our paralegal team. During the summer, we had Hyun Hwa Song intern with us, and we are excited that he will graduate with his Juris Doctorate in 2020 from the University of Iowa.
A number of clients with horrific injuries retained our firm this year. As always, we thank them for placing their trust in us. We know that many of those clients were referred to us from New York law firms. Again, as always, we thank those referring attorneys for trusting us with their New Jersey personal injury referrals
The LMLOO Personal Injury Lawyers wish all our clients, friends, and adversaries a safe and Happy Holiday, followed by a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
