On this blog, why do we talk so much about safety? It’s because we see what happens at the other side: the pain and suffering from the carelessness of corporations and the negligence of some people.

Driving to work this week, there were drivers being blinded by the morning sun, which tells us that the daffodils and tulips will be blooming soon and we will be into the spring. With spring comes a new burst of energy which brings its own risks.

So, what are some of the injuries we see at the law firm that happen between March and May?

As always so many of these injuries come from truck crashes and car accidents. Mostly because of careless driving and often because of careless training by trucking companies.

Let’s start with that blinding sun in the morning. Why aren’t some of these drivers slowing down when the sun is in their eyes? How many drivers have you seen make a left turn at a light, then quickly raise a hand to block the sun but not slow down in the intersection or while driving through the crosswalk? And this is while kids are walking to school.

Compared to the winter months, drivers in springtime are often less cautious about weather even though we still get snow and ice. Other weather-related crashes happen when heavy downpours of rain create detours to avoid flooding. This makes many frustrated drivers more aggressive about making up lost time and they start making illegal left turns or speeding up in neighborhoods that do not get much traffic usually. That adds up to more crashes and injuries.

Other detours are caused by all the repairs that are being done on the roads after the winter months. Again, some drivers get fired up about losing 5 minutes and start following the car in front too closely and end up ramming that car in a rear end hit. With some of these crashes, the property damage to the car might be small, but the injury to the driver in front can be severe, particularly if the discs in the neck and back are damaged from the body jerking back and forth quickly.

Of course, before those roads are repaired, they are covered in potholes. This is dangerous for the vehicles and drivers using the potholed roads, but it is also dangerous for the pedestrians who cross these roads. And how about the folks who park their cars and have to walk around the back of the car to get to the sidewalk? It is hard to see those unrepaired potholes between the parked cars. That is a dangerous tripping hazard. Often those potholes are created by corporations that put pipes or cables underground and don’t repair the roadway safely.

These are some of the dangers we see from carelessness and negligence in the springtime. Hopefully, you and your loved ones, won’t ever become the victims of the negligence of corporations or other people. But if you do, you know that we are here to fight for your justice.
